The Great Cloth Diaper Change!

I know–I’m late posting this and I am not EVEN adding pictures yet. So let the flogging with fluff and prefolds begin.
I do have a pretty good reason for my tardiness: my son has been sick. At this very moment, he is spending some quality time with his daddio and Mimi and Papa so I have a few minutes to blog via the iPhone while my dinner is on the stove.
Saturday was the international day of diaper changing, so to speak. Cloth diapering Mums and Dads across the globe gathered in small (and not so small) groups to swap those wet nappies at 12:30 pm Eastern Time. Why you might ask? So we could share our love of fluffy bumcovers with the Guinness World Records audience.
The numbers are still be authenticated but rumor has it we set a new record for the most cloth diapers changed simultaneously. (Don’t spill the beans about there being no current record to break, okay?) Locally we had just under 40 baby bottoms but I have heard in the CD-community (that’s cloth diaper not compact disc in case you were trying to figure out what music has to do with this post) that some location gathered 100 fluff-wearers.
Not only did we get to see loads of cute dipes, but local vendors came out to share their wares. We sang and signed with My Smart Hands, tumbled with My Gym, got ready to rock a soak with Rockin Green detergent and lots more. If you are interested in learning more about these companies subscribe to my feed because I will post links later in the week for everyone to see.
If pictures are what you want and you just can’t wait, head over to my Facebook page (DAMEphotography the Florida one, not CA) and check them out. If you attended the event and have your password, point your browser to great cloth diaper change Jax on shutterfly If you lost the blue slip with the password on it, no problem just request me to send I over once you follow the link.
As I said, I will add links and pictures to the blog when I have a bit longer to work on this so that I can boot up ye ole pc.
p.s. I added some new items to my etsy shop check them out at damephotography on etsy

Girl friends and Goody bags

This weekend mamas and daddies across the globe will work to set a world record for the most cloth diapers changed at the same time.  The event is known as The Great Cloth Diaper Change. Locally, the event is being held at the University of North Florida, my alma mater. I will be there to share My Smart Hands baby sign language and to document the event in photos with a fellow photographer.

I digress.  Yesterday, I had to get 150 goody bag stuffers ready and I was not looking forward to it.  When I mentioned this to some  friends they offered to happily assist and cook me dinner!  What a deal! (Just kidding about the dinner part, my girl friends are great but they don’t revel in repetitious work that much.)

So after trying to get an early start on these and having to visit multiple stores to gather the needed supplies, I arrived and we set up our little production shop.

Okay, there was dinner, baby baths, and girl-gab in between the arrival and the productivity but we got it all done before our coaches turned into pumpkins at the stroke of twelve.

From 2011_04_19

I think someone  was feeling a little competitive.  She cut out twice as many cards as the other two of us combined.  Our defense? She had the straight cutting machine instead of scissors.  That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Alpine Groves Park

Today I took a trek down to Alpine Groves Park in Switzerland, Florida.  There happened to be a wedding there so I was limited in where I could respectfully take pictures.  Nonetheless, I had a good time enjoying the as-of-yet not-too-hot Spring weather and trying to get a little creative before breaking a sweat.

I couldn’t wait to see what came out of this trip so I downloaded my files as soon as I arrived home and took an hour to do a little editing when I should have been in bed:)  I have mixed feelings about the shots.  Sometimes what you see in your mind’s eye just isn’t capture in the lens no matter how hard you try.  And other times when you review your shots you discover something wonderful that you didn’t see before.  It’s like a surprise gift from the subject to you.

I hope you enjoy these few shots.

Adorable Props and Newborn Posing Guide giveaway!

I’m sure you all do this. Yes, it is completely normal.  I am not odd.  We all follow photographers from across the country on Facebook.  Okay, so maybe not all of us, but I know I’m not alone in this. How do I know this?  because I follow one of the best newborn photographers of our time (Rachel Vanoven) on Facebook and she has followers from across the country.  Want to join me in “oohing” and “ahhing” over her precious models?  Would it sweeten the pot if I told you she has teamed up with a super-de-duper handmade baby hat company named Adorable Props and they are giving away hats and a Rachel’s newly released guide to posing and photographing newborns?  Follow this link to learn how to enter the contest!  And while you are there entering, take a look at her amazing photos!

A Late Night

I have decided to start my blog fresh on a new domain.  WordPress comes highly recommended so here I am!

It’s quite late and Murphy’s Law has been at work in my photo editing for the last two months.  Truly it is trying.  I took a break from the hardcore work to do a few personal edits that I have been putting off.  I am pleased with the results.
